Darth Vader and the Original Trilogy Takeover at Star Wars: Galaxy's Edge (2026)

Get ready for an epic adventure as Star Wars: Galaxy's Edge at Disneyland undergoes an exciting transformation! The Force is about to awaken on Batuu, and it's going to be legendary!

From April 29, 2026, onwards, Black Spire Outpost will transport visitors back in time to the era of the original Star Wars trilogy. Prepare to rub shoulders with iconic characters like Darth Vader, Han Solo, and Princess Leia Organa, all while the enchanting melodies of John Williams' scores fill the air.

The original timeline of Galaxy's Edge depicted Batuu during the Resistance and First Order conflict, but now, it's time to explore a different chapter in the Star Wars saga. The new timeline will span the events of 'Return of the Jedi' and 'The Mandalorian', offering a fresh perspective on this beloved galaxy far, far away.

Since its opening in 2019, Black Spire Outpost has continuously evolved, adding new characters, attractions, and events. This latest timeline shift is a thrilling continuation of Batuu's ever-expanding story.

"Star Wars: Galaxy's Edge has always been a living, breathing world for us," says Asa Kalama, executive vice president for creative and interactive experiences at Walt Disney Imagineering. "We wanted to create a platform for storytelling, where the land could grow and evolve over time."

With the new timeline come new characters and updates to the land itself. Let's dive into the biggest enhancements coming to Galaxy's Edge at Disneyland!

Familiar Faces and New Visitors

As you wander through Black Spire Outpost, keep your eyes peeled because you never know who you'll stumble upon. Starting in late April 2026, Darth Vader himself will be making an appearance on Batuu, accompanied by the menacing Imperial stormtroopers.

"Vader's arrival was a no-brainer," explains Michael Serna, executive creative director for Disney Live Entertainment. "He's the ultimate villain, the epitome of evil. We wanted to bring that iconic presence to life."

Vader's search for Luke Skywalker brings him to Black Spire Outpost, and visitors might just cross paths with the powerful Sith lord near the TIE Echelon. "The TIE Echelon is an Imperial-era ship, carrying the same colors and markings as the classic TIEs," Kalama reveals. "It's like a vintage car, and now it aligns perfectly with our new, updated timeline."

But fear not, rebels! Some powerful allies are also headed to Black Spire Outpost. Luke Skywalker will make an appearance, joined by the legendary Han Solo and Princess Leia Organa. This will be the first time these iconic characters grace the land of Galaxy's Edge.

The Imagineering and Disney Live Entertainment teams collaborated closely with Lucasfilm to craft new looks for Han and Leia, ensuring they're ready for adventure on Batuu. Han sports his iconic vest, while Leia dons a battle-ready white outfit with her hair in a practical crown braid, reminiscent of her style on Hoth in 'The Empire Strikes Back'.

"This is Leia's adventure look," explains Matt Martin, senior creative executive at Lucasfilm. "It's inspired by comic book appearances and the video game 'Star Wars Battlefront II'. We're excited to bring this look to life on screen for the first time."

And that's not all! In addition to Vader, Han, Luke, and Leia, you might also encounter other fan favorites like Rey, R2-D2, Ahsoka Tano, and Chewbacca. (Finally, Chewie and Han are reunited with the Falcon!)

Plus, fans might also cross paths with the Mandalorian Din Djarin and Grogu, who are embarking on a new adventure together. As previously announced, Millennium Falcon: Smugglers Run will feature a brand-new mission beginning in May 2026, where you and your crew can team up with Mando and Grogu to track down Imperial officers and claim a bounty.

Serna emphasizes the team's commitment to making Galaxy's Edge as immersive and authentic as possible. To celebrate the new updates, Lucasfilm has teamed up with Marvel Comics to release a tie-in comic series, revealing the backstory of how and why the Empire and the Rebels came to Batuu.

"You never know who you might encounter under the spires," Serna adds. "Rey might pop up near 'Star Wars: Rise of the Resistance', while you might spot Mando or Ahsoka wandering through the marketplace. And of course, R2-D2 will be roaming everywhere! He's the glue that holds these stories together."

New Looks at Familiar Locations

Every corner of Black Spire Outpost has a rich history, and with the timeline shift, fans can experience familiar locations in a whole new light. "We've gone back and carefully considered the backstories of the shops in the land," Kalama explains. "Since we're in a new era, some are now run by new proprietors."

One of the most significant changes is happening at First Order Cargo, which will be refreshed as Black Spire Surplus. Located near the TIE Echelon, Martin describes it as a "military supply shop" offering exclusive items from across the galaxy.

"You'll find gear from the Rebels and the Empire," Martin teases. "It's your one-stop shop for faction merchandise."

The shop also has an intriguing backstory. Martin reveals that Black Spire Surplus was founded by two former clone troopers who fought together during the Clone Wars and became close friends. Years later, one joined the Empire as a stormtrooper, while the other signed up with the Rebellion. As they aged, they decided to retire and team up as friends and business partners, opening their shop on Batuu.

Additional updates are also coming to Dok-Ondar's Den of Antiquities, Savi's Workshop, and Droid Depot to ensure these locales feel like they belong in the earlier timeframe.

"Dok always has new shipments and antiques," Martin says. "We'll see some new items on display, potentially some Easter eggs from recent live-action TV series."

A Galactic Soundtrack

Music has always been a vital part of Galaxy's Edge, and now, the soundtrack is expanding. As you wander through the market or stand beneath the Millennium Falcon, you'll hear themes from John Williams' iconic scores from the first six Star Wars films. (Over at Oga's, DJ R-3X will be spinning the beloved 'Cantina Band' tune.)

"Standing in front of the Falcon or next to Savi's and hearing the Force theme gently playing in the background is incredibly emotional and impactful," Kalama adds. "It completely transforms your experience of the land."

The goal, Kalama hopes, is to create a Galaxy's Edge that feels more immersive than ever, inviting visitors to write their own Star Wars stories in this unique setting. "We've agonized over every last detail," he says with a laugh.

So, are you ready to step into this new era of Batuu? The Force awaits!
