However, an injury during fight week led to his withdrawal, and since then, he's been in the UFC's 'doghouse'. CEO Dana White has seemingly put Tsarukyan on his naughty list, denying him a shot at the vacant title at UFC 324.
'King Mo' argues that everyone deserves a second chance, especially in a country that values redemption. He believes Tsarukyan has proven his worth, making weight as a backup and delivering an entertaining performance against Hooker. Lawal, who coaches at American Top Team where Tsarukyan trains, is baffled by the UFC's decision. Tsarukyan's recent win over former champion Charles Oliveria and his submission of Dan Hooker in the main event in Doha, Qatar, should, in Lawal's opinion, secure Tsarukyan the title shot.
But here's the part most people miss: Tsarukyan's behavior outside the octagon. He punched a fan during his walkout to the Oliveira fight and recently headbutted Hooker during the ceremonial weigh-ins. These incidents might be the reason the UFC is hesitant to give Tsarukyan another title opportunity.
'King Mo' believes that a little controversy can be good for the fight business. He cites the example of UK fighter Derek Chisora, who intentionally creates buzz by doing something crazy, knowing he can make up for any fines with increased ticket sales. Lawal suggests that Tsarukyan's headbutt might have had a similar effect, generating more interest in the Hooker fight.
